Ruth Sykes Choice – My Favorite Amaryllis flowers!

About me: My name is Ruth Sykes and am 76 years old. I live in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. For the last 30 years I have a passion for every aspect of gardening, in particular cross pollination of different types of hybrids, I am just an enthusiast with no training, the joy is in the doing and the pleasure and anticipation of what is to come.

The favorite of all is the one I bred myself, it is so outstanding..

Anything else you would like to share about Amaryllis:

Tho it has taken many years to achieve different varieties of amaryllis, it never ceases to amaze me with what you can finally end up with. The pride of knowing, even if you do not know much about horticulture, the fun is in the doing and see the final result, some you fall in love with and become it becomes very precious. Some of my flower heads measure up to 30cm which is nearly 1 foot wide, with as many as 4 to 6 heads on each stem, a sight to behold.

I do not have names for my favorites because every Amaryllis flower is special to me.

Years of anticipation to see what the bulb has produced.
I purchased from Royal Colors the Jumbo Bonito last year, and was so thrilled with it, this year I have had a record number of stems from this pot, as much as 7. with 4 to 5 flowers per stem, the sight was glorious.

Thank you Ruth Sykes for your interesting story about your favorite amaryllis flowers, and the beautiful picuters we love it.
